Life is a song, and then sometimes it is not.

Most of the time we are rushing from one place to the next, living life, experiencing heartache and bliss and then heartache again. And when you are a sensitive soul, sometimes it can all be too much.

Sometimes it may feel as if the heartache is too intense and the bliss too short lived. The burden we carry may feel to heavy and the responsibilities ever increasing. In the end this is how we end up building our lives from one moment to the next, one worry to the other, one day at a time. Surviving today, repeating tomorrow.

Something that sits with me lately is the buziness of it all. There is always something to do and always something to worry about, and perhaps that is just life, but where is the joy in that? And where do we spend most of our time while our attentions spans are being disrupted by never ending to-do-lists?

It is perhaps not something we think about consciously most of the time, but unless we do, time can start running away from us, and life may start to consist of mainly to do lists and worry, the things we need to do to survive, how to get to tomorrow in one piece, all knitted together in a hectic tapestry of never ending madness!

Yet, it is important to sometimes stop and to just stay a while.

To notice the small things, to listen to the chatter of a child and to notice life. We need to make time to wait on the magic, to breathe in the fresh air, to smell the flowers. To catch our breath.

We need to just stop.

Realise that this is your life, and life consists of craziness, ups and downs, heartaches and bliss, struggles and peace – and while it is important for us to shape it, to get through the madness of life, we also need to notice while we are at it. Spend the time, take it slower…we need to make sure not to miss today!

One of my favourite sayings brings it to life in a wonderful way. It is a quote by award winning author and social justice activist LR Knost, she reminds us that:

“Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That’s just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.”

It is true. Life is beautiful. Life is busy and sometimes overwhelming – but it remains ours to live – and to live it well we need to notice it in all its splendour and with all its disappointments and shadows. This is what helps us grow and learn.  Your life is yours to live and experience to the full. I hope I can help you to remember that today.

Remember to stay a while, while you are living your amazing, heartbreaking, ordinary life.

Lots of love in finding your way forward…
